Words have the power to hurt or to heal. Literature connects us to ourselves & each other, helping us make sense of the world around us.
Dr Maureen McCue
Author & Literary Historian
I am a writer, literary scholar, and cultural historian, specialising in eighteenth and early nineteenth-century Britain. Long fascinated by the intersections between literature, the visual arts and the materiality of our everyday lives, my current research recovers the ways in which women crafted Georgian Britain through their creative practices. A former Senior Lecturer, I hold a PhD in Romanticism from the University of Glasgow.
My gift to you
On Literature & Life
As a reader, writer and teacher, words are at the centre of my world. Reading invites us to slow down, to live more fully. Writing does the same. So I’ve created some gifts for you to help you explore your world through words (your own in the form of journal prompts, and through the words of others).

Writing
I have written widely about the intersection between art and literature in Romantic Britain. I am currently writing about women’s creative labour in late eighteenth-century Britain.
Speaking & Events
I enjoy sharing my research with the public.

Teaching & Editing
I am an experienced teacher and editor.
